Get the correct visa for your plan!
It is very important that you know which type of visa you will have before visiting NZ. There are a few different visa options depending on your nationality, plans and length of stay in NZ.
The most common visas for NZLC students are Visitor Visas, Student Visas and Working Holiday Visas.
NZeTA – New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority
From 1 Oct 2019, NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) will be introduced. Please check if it applies to you.
Visitor Visa
If you are from a visa-waiver country and want to stay in NZ for 3 months or less then you do not need to apply for the visa before you come to NZ. On this visa, you can study full time or part time and/or travel; however, you cannot work. It’s important to check if a pre-departure visa is required for your country.
Note:
• Ensure you meet the bona fide requirements for a visitor visa.
• Bring a printed copy of your NZLC Offer Letter and, if applicable, your NZLC Accommodation Letter and NZLC Airport Pick Up confirmation with you when you travel to New Zealand.
Student Visa
The Student Visa is the most common type of visa that our students hold. If the main purpose of your trip to NZ is to study and you want to stay more than 3 months, then the Student Visa is the option for you. On this visa, you must study full time.
NZLC is a Category 1 school so when you enrol for a minimum of 14 weeks in a full-time course on the Student Visa, you can get a 20 hour per week work permit.
Note:
• Make sure all sections of the application form are completed with your signature, along with enough supporting evidence.
• Officially issued bank statements are required (no screen shots).
• If you have one, your Education Consultant’s details should be included on the application form.
• The letter of intent should be detailed and coherent, showing why you want to come to New Zealand for study.
• You need to be able to show that you will return to your country (e.g. return flight ticket)
• If you are intending to study English before going on to further study, the letter and evidence should demonstrate that you have looked into this and have documents where relevant that support this.
• Bring a printed copy of your NZLC Offer Letter and, if applicable, your NZLC Accommodation Confirmation Letter and NZLC Airport Pick Up confirmation with you when you travel to New Zealand.
Working Holiday Visa
Some countries have a Working Holiday agreement with New Zealand which means you can stay for 6-12 months working, studying and travelling in NZ. Some countries have a quota for this type of visa so you should check availability. You can study up to 6 months on a Working Holiday Visa.
Post-study Work Visa
If students have an acceptable qualification that they completed in New Zealand, students can apply for a post-study work visa to work in New Zealand. Depending on the qualification and where students studied, students can work for any employer for between 1 and 3 years, and do almost any work.
Partner of a Student Work Visa
This visa allows partners of Student visa holders, who are in New Zealand studying towards a level 7 or 8 qualification on the Immigration New Zealand Long Term Skill Shortage List, or a Level 9 or 10 qualification, to work in New Zealand.
