Lesson A:
The first class approach is communicative and learners are encouraged to use and practise the language as much as possible. The teaching methods are skills-based (reading, writing, listening and speaking) with vocabulary and grammar structures introduced around interesting and relevant themes to suit and motivate young learners.
Lesson B:
The second classes focus on project based learning centred around specific themes relevant to this age group. The learning outcomes are aligned with the NZ ESOL curriculum, for example, creating an information report or describing a process while also providing practice of 21st century skills such as critical thinking, virtual learning and technology in the classroom. The course also highlights the importance of a collaborative learning environment where cultural diversity is embraced.
