The New Zealand Language Centres have been providing English courses for 3 decades, including IELTS, ESOL, TESOL, Cambridge Exam courses, high school preperation and some great work experience initiatives.
As we approach our 30 year anniversary, we wanted to talk to some of our first students back when we started in 1984.
Michiyo Takenaka, graduate of 1984 has been returning to NZLC each year to study English
“In September 1984, I came to Auckland and studied General English and stayed with a Kiwi host family. After that, I worked for an exporting and importing company, had children and then I decided to become an English teacher for children aged 4 - 15 years old. For the past 14 years I have been taking my students along with me to NZLC for the Young Learners Programme every year. "
Just looking back on my life, when I was a student, I did not like studying English but my experience at NZLC in 1984 totally changed my life. Even after 30 years, I have been continuously studying English. I can’t thank NZLC Auckland enough, and I will definitely come back again next year!"
Ben Pudner from Thailand also studied at NZLC Auckland in 1984
Ben came to NZLC when the school was first established in New Zealand and completed a 6 month English course. A couple of years later, she returned to our school to work as the receptionist. She is still working with us today!
Ben says what she loves most about working at NZLC is meeting all the new students from around the world. “I find it very rewarding seeing their English progress. I especially love hearing when NZLC students are able to find a job."
