As part of our ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable development, NZLC engage in a number of student wellbeing activities and community and environmental initiatives throughout the year.
Here are some of the recent community activities our students participated in over the last few of months:
Yoga Class - January : During the warm months we offer after-school yoga classes in the park! The perfect way for our students to relax their mind and body after a day of study!
Sustainable Green Quiz – May: NZLC participated in our sustainable Clean Green NZ quiz to learn all about how to keep our environment clean and protect the native species.
The winning teams were awarded tickets to thermal pools, eco-friendly water bottles and Fair Trade chocolate.
Vanuatu Cyclone Fundraiser: NZLC Auckland and Wellington sold old texts books to fundraise for Vanuatu after their devastating cyclone. We raised over $500.
Maori and Polynesian Cultural Show – July : NZLC students supported a local cultural group by going to their amazing dance show. All proceeds from the show went towards the cultural group’s trip to Italy to compete in a prestigious dance competition.
Retirement Village Trip – August : Some students volunteered to visit a local retirement village and spend time with the residents. They played board games, told stories and had a special afternoon!
Paperless Classes – Twice a term : To cut down on paper waste, teachers have been making interactive lessons using technology in the classroom, community learning and exploiting the course book without photocopies!
Blood Donation Day – June: Our most charitable students dedicated their afternoon to giving blood and helping save Kiwi lives!
Tree Planting – May: NZLC students visited a local nursery to learn about caring for plants and trees!
Volunteer Wellington’ is located in the same building as NZLC and offers a wide range of volunteer roles such as administration, web and graphic design, marketing, environmental work and more!
Students can practise their English and get involved with the local community through the NZLC volunteer pathway programme.
Recycling awareness : As part of NZLC course syllabus, our Students regularly incorporate environmental projects in their classroom acitivies.
In October, they designed and presented recycling posters. The most beautiful designs are displayed in our school!
