As part of our ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable development, NZLC engage in a number of community and environmental initiatives throughout the year.
Here are some of the recent community activities our students participated in over the last couple of months:
Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines
Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines on November 8. Students and Staff gathered clothes to donate to the victims of the Typhoon and money towards sending the clothes over to the Phillipines. According to Oxfam over 11 million people have been affected by the Typhoon.
New Zealand Recycling Week
Students dressed in green and had fun participating in the NZLC recycling quiz. They had to answer questions in groups based on the environment and learned about how to recycle different materials. The week is designed to raise awareness and encourage everyone to care for the environment through recycling.
Mo-vember takes place throughout the month of November to raise awareness for prostate cancer. Typically males participating in this event will be sponsored for growing a moustache, also known as a ‘mo’, for the whole month. Some students contributed towards making donations and had fun wearing a mo on the official Movember day. Our school principal grew a moustache in support for the event!
Auckland City Mission
Students and staff are donating Christmas gifts and non-perishable food items to the Auckland City Mission so that they can deliver Christmas food bags and gifts to families in need this Christmas.
